Driving Organic Traffic with Free Tools
The Dilemma
How do I bring more people to my website? It’s the question every creator or business owner who just launched a website asks themselves. People often think that just building the website is what’s needed, and that the visitors will pour in naturally as soon as Google and Bing index their sites. Unfortunately that isn’t the case, far from it. A website that isn’t promoted, that doesn’t have compelling reasons for people to visit, will sit idle and be seen by no one.
Paying for ads to funnel viewers into your website can work for some sites. Sites that primarily sell a product for instance, are great for paid advertising. You pay a certain amount to send visitors to your site. A certain percentage of those visitors buy the product. You make money. As long as the profit from the product is more than the advertising costs to send the visitors to it, the system works.
But what happens if you aren’t selling products directly? How about if you don’t yet have the money to run an ad budget? Online advertising can get very expensive, very quickly. In this case, and even in the cases where you potentially do sell a product on your website, being able to funnel visitors to your site for free can be a huge positive. One way to do this is by offering value and giving away things for free.
The Tools
Instead of pushing viewers to the website via ads, you can offer simple web utilities, for free, that draw organic traffic into the site naturally. For instance on xlstech.net, we started by repurposing three web applications we were already using:
- Discord Color Text Generator – Allows the user to create different types of colored text effects, both foreground and background, that they can then paste into Discord channels and private messages.
- Speech Time Calculator – This app lets content creators, voiceover artists, and editors know exactly how long a piece of text will take to read out loud at various speaking speeds. A built-in slider lets the user choose their own desired words-per-minute or WPM value.
- Thai Number Trainer – This number training tool is designed for expats and students in Thailand who want to build fast recognition of Thai numbers. It includes both phonetic spellings as well as Thai numerals. It even includes flashing colors, sound effects, and stats to turn the app into a fun game.
None of these apps is locked behind logins, signups, or anything of the sort. They are simply free tools that anyone can access.
It’s worth noting that while we already had the basic apps available to us, a knowledge of programming isn’t strictly needed for this. These are simple, standalone apps that run directly in the users browser. To package them for public use on the website, we described the site details to an AI tool and copy pasted the existing code into the AI chat window. The AI tool was able to guide us through installing the apps onto the website without a whole lot of trial and error. Even better, the AI was able to help us make small tweaks to the code to improve the overall look and feel of the apps without anyone needing to manually edit them. You could even have an AI tool create smaller apps completely on its own just by using your detailed instructions. This is what is known as vibe-coding.
The Payoff
Posting these tools on my website brought in nearly 300 new visitors within the first 24 hours. The pages they are on have now been submitted to Google for indexing and continue to bring in a steady flow of traffic, every single day. The more people I can bring into my ecosystem via organic traffic, the more people can be exposed to my YouTube content, TikTok, website articles, or whatever they may be interested in.
Useful tools like these earn natural, powerful backlinks as users share them across various online communities over time. Search engines love to see backlinks, and the more backlinks these tools have, the better the pages will rank. Once a tool like this is in place and spreads around via search engines, promotional efforts, and word of mouth, it will continue to bring in visitors on its own, for years to come.

You don’t need a marketing budget or a sales funnel to start driving organic traffic to your website. By simply offering free value with no strings attached, you give people a reason to visit, and they will. Free tools turn your website from merely being a passive billboard into an active destination hub. In today’s world of digital media, attention is everything.
