Record ANY Sound on Your PC

YouTube player

You can literally record ANY sound playing on your computer. There’s a simple trick that lets you capture everything from video audio to games to system sounds in just minutes. This guide shows how to do it using just a free tool and a couple of quick settings changes:

Any sound you can hear on your computer, you can save a recording of. All it takes is using a free app and a couple of minutes, so let’s see how it’s done.

The first thing we want to do is install an app called Audacity. Audacity is a totally free tool for recording and editing audio. I’ll put a link to it down below.

Now that we have Audacity installed, we can tell it what device we want to record from, then we’re ready to go. Across the top, first select “Audio Setup”. Now highlight the Playback Device section. Make a note of what device is selected for playback. In this case it’s Speakers.

We’re going to want to set our recording device to be the same as the currently selected playback device. So go down to Recording Device and switch that device over to be the same.

Now we’re ready to record. To capture the audio you’d like to save, start by clicking the Record button. Now start playing your audio. Once you get through the audio, go ahead and click the Stop button.

Now let’s play back what we just recorded: “Hello I like money. What inspired.”

We can see that there’s some extra parts before and after our audio that we don’t really need.

So to trim it, first make sure the Selection Tool is currently selected. Now click and drag the Selection Tool across the portion of audio you’d like to keep. Next click the button labeled “Trim Audio Outside Selection”. This will trim the audio down to just the portion we want.

Now to save our audio, first select File, then select Export Audio. Select the name and folder you’d like to export to, then select the format. For this example we’re going to use MP3. Now check the box labeled Trim Blank Space Before First Clip, then click Export.

That’s all there is to it.
