Celebs Addicted to World of Warcraft
A crazy number of celebrities have admitted to sinking countless hours into World of Warcraft, proving that even the rich and famous aren’t immune to WoW addiction. This video takes a look at the stars who became hardcore players, longtime fans, and even full blown addicts of Blizzard’s legendary MMO:
Did you know a number of famous celebrities are known to have played World of Warcraft? Many famous individuals from various fields including entertainment, sports, and even politics have admitted a love for WoW. Let’s take a look at some of them now.
Number one: Robin Williams. A well known lover of many video games including both Legend of Zelda and World of Warcraft, Robin Williams even named his daughter Zelda in reference to the game character. Robin was known to have custom built his own PCs to play various games, going as far as to highly overclock them and use custom cooling solutions. He was known to have played healing characters on the Mannoroth server, and few people on the server knew his real identity until after he passed away. Blizzard Entertainment went as far as adding a reference to him in the game in the form of Robin the Entertainer. He appears as a genie in reference to his character from the movie Aladdin, and there’s a large broken egg nearby referencing his television character Mork.
Number two: Vin Diesel. This actor, most famous for his Fast and Furious movies, is a well known lover of World of Warcraft as well as RPG games of all kinds. Primarily playing a druid character, Vin has been known to have teamed up in-game with other famous players Paul Walker and Ronda Rousey. Vin Diesel now reserves most of his free gaming time for Ark Survival Evolved and in fact plays a major character in the upcoming sequel Ark 2.
Number three: Dave Chappelle. This comedian and producer is known to have been a fan of both Grand Theft Auto as well as World of Warcraft. Although he played WoW in earlier days, he once told a San Francisco crowd in 2005 that he had recently been playing a lot of World of Warcraft. When some cheers broke out in the audience, he was reported to have said, “I knew I had some geek brothers and sisters up in here.”
Number four: Cameron Diaz. The actress most known for her work in Charlie’s Angels and There’s Something About Mary is also known to be an avid World of Warcraft player. Though tight lipped about what servers she played on and what characters she played, she has mentioned in multiple interviews her love for the game. She even admitted to being somewhat addicted to it at one point.
Number five: Olivia Munn. The actress and television host who began her professional career at the gaming network G4 is a known lover of many different games. In particular she has often mentioned World of Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed, and Legend of Zelda. She has admitted that recently she has not had as much time for World of Warcraft but still is able to pick up and often play another Warcraft based game, Hearthstone.
Number six: Henry Cavill. This British actor known for roles in The Witcher and Superman has mentioned a number of times in interviews how much he loves World of Warcraft. He admitted to Conan O’Brien in 2016 that he originally missed the call offering him the role of Superman because he was busy running a dungeon. “I was playing World of Warcraft at the time.” When asked in an interview which faction he prefers, Horde or Alliance, he answered “Alliance.”
Number seven: Ronda Rousey. This professional UFC fighter and WWE wrestler has been playing World of Warcraft for a number of years, often teaming up to adventure with Vin Diesel. She has many different characters but tends to mostly play rogues. Ronda has also been known to livestream her adventures in Azeroth to thousands of fans on Twitch.
Number eight: Verne Troyer. The late actor most known for his appearances in the Austin Powers movies was an avid gamer and World of Warcraft player. He in fact appeared in one of the many now famous WoW commercials. Out of all the original actors in those commercials, however, Verne was the only one that actually played the game.
Number nine: Felicia Day. This actress known for her work in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the web series The Guild is a long time World of Warcraft player. She’s been a prolific streamer of her adventures in Azeroth and has been known to play a human shadow priest as well as other characters. Felicia is the creator and star of The Guild web series, which is based largely on her personal experiences in WoW.
Number ten: Mila Kunis. Perhaps the celebrity who is best known for playing World of Warcraft, Mila Kunis played the game for many years. Although the actress best known for roles in That 70s Show and Family Guy dabbled with multiple characters, her main character was a gnome mage with pink pigtails. At one point she got extremely addicted to the game, playing for entire days at a time. It was only when her casting agent had to resort to logging into the game in order to communicate with her did she realize there was a problem. Mila gave up playing the game shortly after, though still has fond memories of her time playing.
