We’re going to quickly go through giving your mouse an easy to follow highlight effect. This quick to use, totally free method is a lot easier to implement than some other traditional ways of highlighting. This method also works great when streaming or recording. Apps like Zoom, OBS, Switch Studio, and Camtasia all work great. Let’s get started.

When I say easy to use, I mean easy to use. That means no installing scripting programs. That means no downloading and remapping fifteen different cursor files. We’re just going to install a simple standalone program that does everything we need.

The program we’ll be using is a Microsoft Store app called Mouse Highlight. Mouse Highlight works with both Windows 10 and Windows 11. You can find it in the Microsoft Store by searching for the words mouse pointer highlight. The app is small in size at just over one megabyte, so it should install quite quickly.

Now that it’s installed, let’s open it up and see what we’ve got. Find the app using the Start menu or the search box down in the taskbar. Go ahead and click on it to open.

At this point we’re basically up and running. As long as the program remains running, the highlighter will be active. To turn the highlighter off, simply close the program. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

I really like the default settings with just the click highlight effect turned off. There are a few more options, however, that you can tweak to your liking, such as size, opacity, and color.
