Xbox Resale Value – What’s It Worth

Legacy game consoles can be surprisingly valuable, but figuring out what an older Xbox is actually worth depends heavily on its condition, accessories, and version. This video walks through evaluating an Xbox One Day One Edition to see whether it still has resale value and what a realistic price range might be:

Can I sell this old Xbox? And if so, how much is it worth? Now, I’m told it does work, so I assume we can sell it for at least something.

It does have some components included, such as a power adapter, controller, Kinect camera, a game, and an optional Kinect adapter. Having all these extra pieces will really help with the resale value, as just the unit by itself would be in much less demand.

One thing I noticed right away, however, is that something is up with the power adapter. It appears someone spliced the power cable together with electrical tape. While it may work, not a lot of people are going to be interested in buying something like this.

Looking up the numbers on the adapter, it turns out the power brick actually belongs to an Xbox 360 and not an Xbox One. Someone spliced the power connector from an Xbox One onto it and apparently used it like that.

Luckily for me, my 20 years of hoarding tech gear pays off yet again. I just so happen to have a never used third party Xbox One power adapter still in the box. I can flip out the Frankenstein adapter with this new third party one and we’re back in business.

Which version of Xbox is this? This is an Xbox One Day One Edition. These consoles were released in late 2013, so they are getting a bit older and that will affect the resale value.

Let’s try turning it on and make sure everything’s actually working.

Okay, now we’re in good shape. Next, we’ll take a number of nicely lit, high quality pictures of all the parts, then list it on eBay with a good description. The fact that it’s in great shape, working perfectly, and has a bunch of addons with it? Perfect.

I think we should be able to get probably 100 to 120 dollars for it, but I don’t have a lot of experience selling game consoles. I’d be interested to know what you all think, so let me know in the video comments what you think it’s worth!
