How Fast Will Free Stuff Disappear?

In this video, I’m continuing the process of giving away almost everything before moving my family to Bangkok. Let’s see what happens!

I’m in the process of giving away, throwing away, or selling nearly everything I own. Before I move my entire life and family to Bangkok, I need to literally get rid of hundreds of things. And today, it’s time to say goodbye to this folding table.

Let’s see how long it takes us to give this thing away.

So, what’s one of the best ways to get rid of stuff? Find a big item of decent quality, clean it up a bit, and stick it outside your home with a big free sign on it.

Let’s go through what I’ve given away so far.

The spare microwave was only 700W, but it worked and it was in great condition. Put it out front and it was gone in about 4 hours.

The trash can was one of those fancy stainless steel ones. We never actually used it all that much, so it was in perfect condition. Out in front of the house, it lasted about 6 hours before someone picked it up.

The elliptical machine was big and super heavy. It was in great condition, but no one was going to be able to just walk by and grab it or stick it in their trunk. It took a couple of days, but eventually someone did come by and take it.

The Spider-Man kid’s bike had been used quite a bit, but I took some time to clean it up nicely and pump up the tires. It was only out there for like an hour before someone took it.

The electric guitar was one that originally came with the Rocksmith video game. It had all the strings still and had a couple of guitar picks. Put it out in front with a free sign on it and someone took it at some point during the night.

The electric keyboard was put out at the same time as the guitar. It was only lightly used and still had the power cord with it. It also disappeared sometime overnight.

Now as far as toys, I’ve put out three or four large boxes of toys at this point. The first box went pretty quickly within a day. The person who took it was even thoughtful enough to stick a little note in the mailbox saying thank you. The later boxes, unfortunately, no one really wanted them all that much. They did have some individual items taken out of them, like some of the large Marvel action figures, but many of the other things just ended up in the recycling or trash.

A 32-inch flat screen TV, including the remote, was put out with a sign on it saying it was free and working fine. It didn’t even last an hour outside in front of the house before someone took it.

A wooden Thomas the Train set was put out in front of the house in a large plastic bin the day before Christmas. These train sets can be pretty pricey, so someone snagged it that evening. I think a kid someplace may have ended up getting it for Christmas.

Now, with today’s folding table, it’s in great condition, and a lot of people would find this useful, so I bet it will go fast.

Okay, so how long was it until someone took it? 3 hours.
